I like Phil

I've always liked Phil Gramm, especially from the time of the Clinton Health care proposal when he made the most sensible criticisms of it. He has a PhD in Economics and he actually says smart things. However, he never had the knack for presidential poitics. His own presidential campaign never took off. Now he's being attacked by his own candidate, John McCain, for saying that the economic situation is not as bad as some say and that there is a "mental recession." I'm glad someone can say something contrary to the requisite doom and gloom going around everywhere. Hooray for the those who are siding with Phil, such as Amity Schlaes (whose wonderful book The Forgotten Man I just finished), Jonah Goldberg and Fred Barnes.
